Work with the aesthetic qualities and considerations of shape, colour, pattern, mark making and composition. You will try procedures I have evolved for pushing my own abstraction boundaries, without losing the integrity of the place or time which I am hoping to convey. Deconstruct your subject and reconstruct an image where the subject lies somewhere underneath the surface.
The course is planned over 4 x 3.5 hour sessions on Zoom, at fortnightly intervals. Each session begins with an hour long introduction and demonstration, slides and discussion, followed by time to begin the brief. During this period you can keep in touch with me via Whatsapp should you need further explanation or help with your progress. It ends with another Zoom session and group feedback.
The bulk of your artwork is done in the intervening weeks with opportunity for you to contact the tutor with questions during that time. You will receive a handout and slides for each session. You will need drawing tools and equipment, pencil, charcoal and drawing ink (optional). Acrylic paints are used to demonstrate. You may use these or oil paints or pastels.
