What is Modernist Painting? The Tate Gallery describes is as

…’ A rejection of history and conservative values (such as realistic depiction of subjects); innovation and experimentation with form (the shapes, colours and lines that make up the work) with a tendency to abstraction; and an emphasis on materials, techniques and processes….’

On this course you will devise and build a semi abstract composition over two days. You will be taken through a process beginning with collecting information, selection and rejection of material through to working in colour, with reference to some of the mid-20th century painters.

The emphasis will be on shape, lines, colour and its application, as vehicles for the build!

Priority is given to Sunningwell students but there may be places to fill.
